About the Trail: 3.3-mile loop trail near Bonne Terre, Missouri. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 19 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, camping, and hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Swimming Deer Trail is blazed in Green. This trail follows Big River for approximately one mile before circling back along the hillside to its origin. Hikers will be treated to outstanding bluff overlooks along Big River for much of the walk. Also along the trail is evidence of scars left on the land from a time when settlers dug shallow surface mines by hand to search for lead deposits. A historic log sawmill reflects a time when this area was so heavily logged that hardly any trees were left standing. The trail can be accessed in the campground's electric loop behind the showerhouse; parking is provided at the campground restroom only.

This is a very popular area for hiking, mountain biking, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
